Underwater: manta rays, the most graceful swimmer in the Okinawa oceans

Our Collection

Flat, diamond-shaped reef manta ray (Manta alfredi) swimming gracefully toward the front of the screen, with its black-spotted white belly visible.
Sharksuckers who act as cleaner fish that remove any parasites, dead skin, bacteria or mucus off of the manta rays are attached to the body.
The reef manta ray is found in temperate and tropical waters in the Pacific (south of Okinawa) and the Indian Ocean. The creature feeds largely on plankton. The prey is funneled into its mouth, which it opens by spreading its cephalic fins. A distinguishing feature is the black spots on the creature's belly.
