Akita Kanto Festival, one of the three major festivals in Tohoku region, is held in August in Akita city, Japan. A tall bamboo pole hanging many lanterns is supported on the shoulder, the flat of a hand, forehead or waist by the experienced holder. A great number of tourists from around the world visit to see this exciting festival. The festival is for praying for the productiveness of grain and expelling evil spirits in the mid summer.
